ifm’s 3D Smart Sensor provides a field of 3D vision just like your own eyes. It is designed to evaluate distance for mobile machine object detection.
ifm’s 3D Smart Sensor uses Photonic Mixer Device (PMD) technology and the Time of Flight principle to detect scenes and objects in three dimensions at a glance, providing a wide 3D field of view.
The Time of Flight principle measures a distance based on the time it takes light to travel to an object and back to the receiver
The PMD technology in our 3D Smart Sensor projects 1024 points of reference onto an object. These pixels capture the entire object in three dimensions, detecting blind spots and preventing collisions. Unlike traditional 2D line scans, our 3D Smart Sensor can see the mobile machine’s entire field of view, so objects are not missed. ifm’s 3D Smart Sensor is specifically designed for outdoor applications subject to bright sunlight and changing light conditions. ifm’s 3D Smart Sensor housings, like all ifm products, are robust to withstand wear in the harshest environments.
